This was my first time eating at Akira. The restaurant itself is simple and clean. The menu has an amazing selection, though I can’t speak for everything they offer. What I ordered was good. The vegetable tempura was freshly made, and the teriyaki salmon and mahi-mahi were both delicious, maybe because we were very hungry! Unfortunately, the service didn’t match the quality of the food. We arrived at 7:00 p.m., but our entrées didn’t come out until around 8:15 p.m. When our appetizer was served, we weren’t given any plates, which seemed like an oversight. Since the restaurant appears to be fairly new, maybe the staff is still getting trained, but I would expect someone to notice these kinds of issues. What disappointed me the most was the lack of communication. Our food took over an hour to arrive, yet no one came by to apologize or give us an update. A simple “We’re sorry for the delay—your food will be out soon” would have gone a long way. The food was worth the wait, but the overall dining experience was affected by the poor service.
